About Me

I feel like it’s so easy to describe my family and I don’t even know where to begin to describe myself.  How do you sum up your entire being in a few words?

I guess if I had to start somewhere: I am a mom; a girlfriend; a blogger; a hiker; and a dreamer…

I am a mom; a girlfriend; a blogger; a hiker; and a dreamer…

I am a sometimes-foolish optimist; a home-chef to my family; and a fitness enthusiast (long-time jogger, new to weights)…

I am a believer in reiki, meditation, acupuncture and placental ingestion; I am a sufferer of anxiety, and a breastfeeding advocate….

I am unapologetically honest and kind of an oversharer.

I have a bachelors in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan.

I wake up almost every day with fresh eyes and an open heart, and I love that I have the opportunity to stay home with my kids.

I love coffee and beer, I love to write, and I sometimes raise my voice when my kids misbehave (though I try not to.)

I am unapologetically honest and kind of an oversharer.

I was born in Michigan and currently reside in Long Beach.  Both of my girls were born here and we practically live outside.

That brings us to Katie.  She’s my firstborn and she is a firecracker.

She is the most athletic toddler I have ever seen.  In the past couple months, she has done a 5 mile hike and just completed her first 5k (the color run) with flying colors (pun intended!). She can also tantrum with the best of them and last week we busted her crying in front of the mirror.

Katie is also a runner (as in she sprints away from us) so we spend a lot of time trying to find places to go that we can all enjoy – she needs space to do her thing and we need space to let her so we don’t all have a terrible time.

It may seem as though we are go, go, go all the time, and we kind of are, but it’s what works for us.  To be honest, neither me nor Katie are really indoor people anyways.

Then there is Isabelle.  She is my rainbow baby and she came out sucking her thumb.  We thought she was going to be super laid back, and she is a lot of the time, but now that she’s close to crawling we are starting to see some fire in her (I get it – she needs that mobility to escape big sis sometimes.)

Isabelle was breech and ended up being a c section.  She has hip dysplasia as a result of being breech for so long and we are battling it one day at a time.

She spent 14 weeks in a pavlik harness, and we go back to the doctor in January of 2018 to see if she’ll need any further intervention.  We are hoping not as the next step would be a cast.  Please send positive vibes if you are reading this (we are believers in vibes over here – except for Jason.)

Jason is my boyfriend and the girls’ dad.  He does EVERYTHING.  That’s only kind-of sort-of an exaggeration.

Jason is my boyfriend and the girls’ dad.  He does EVERYTHING.

He plays on the floor with the girls, he paints Katie’s toes, he wakes up at night with Isabelle, and he is a software engineer by day after teaching himself to code in his spare time.  He is amazing and he makes me laugh until my belly hurts every single day.

He is my soulmate and I couldn’t have created a better match for myself if I tried.

Jason and I do our best to share the housework, and we sometimes argue about money or if he forgets to put my breastmilk back in the fridge (but seriously, DON’T leave the breastmilk out.). We rarely hold grudges (because when you have kids you completely give up that luxury) and I like to think we are a pretty normal family.

Happy reading 🙂
